The Lalit
The Lalit backyard retreat expands our original studio into a 250-square-feet prefab ADU with a bathroom and kitchen. This ADU is perfect as an in-law suite, an Airbnb rental, or a backyard retreat. We're calling it the Lalit, which carries many meanings that resonate with this design. In French "lalit" is literally bed, but in Sanskrit it means sweet, elegant, and graceful. And in classical Hindustan music, the Lalit is a raga regarded as serene and devotional and performed at the dawn of the day. Call it whatever you want, but we think this turnkey, modular ADU is a perfect small home solution that supports rest and rejuvenation to rise and shine each day.
